Traditional Japanese sword training at Newcastle Aikido

Iaido is a traditional Japanese martial art focused on the smooth, controlled movements of drawing and cutting with a katana. Iaido emphasizes precision, mindfulness, and discipline, making it more than just a physical practice—it's a journey of mental and spiritual growth.

  • Enhance discipline

Cultivate a deep sense of focus and self-control, which are essential traits for martial arts as well as characteristics often lacking in modern life.

  • Master precision

Learn the intricate techniques of drawing, cutting, and sheathing the sword with expert guidance from Sensei Darius and senior Iaido instructors.

  • Connect with tradition

Explore the samurai's rich history and cultural heritage together with other like-minded students, embodying a practice passed down through generations.

Try a class

The best way to get a feel for Japanese swordwork is to attend one of our classes at Newcastle Aikido. We run Iaido classes at Saku Shin Kan dojo (7 Bennett Street, Hamilton) twice a week: Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:30-8:30 pm. Send a short message and we’ll be in touch to organise a suitable time to visit.

For everyone, but not for all.
